Disney DIY: Meet The Robinsons “Keep Moving Forward” Pennant

Disney DIY: Meet The Robinsons “Keep Moving Forward” Pennant

I’ve had a lot of DIYs planned for Katie’s nursery and while we, along with so many others across the country (and across the entire world even!) are practicing social distancing/staying at home, I wanted to share this fun colorful pennant idea inspired by one of my favorite Disney movies - Meet The Robinsons! It’s also timely because Meet the Robinsons is celebrating its 13th anniversary today (which also happens to be my birthday!)

I especially love the Walt quote that is incorporated into the heart of the film:

” We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

I knew when planning out the design of her room that I wanted to incorporate a gallery wall, and that I wanted it to be a mix of prints, photos and some handmade items to make the space feel colorful fun and lived-in.

It felt (lol, puns!) like the Robinsons’ motto to “Keep Moving Forward” would make a cute inspirational pennant for the nursery!

I whipped up a quick design in Procreate on my iPad that played in the color palette I created for her room, focusing on the corals & yellows so it would pop since she has a teal statement wall.

Like many art apps, Procreate has a way to create your own palettes so you can keep coming back to them for other pieces, which has been really helpful in keeping things consistent in the design phase. (Most of those are the defaults that came with the app and my “favorites” is such a grab-bag mess of colors!)

Then onto translating the art into the physical pennant - I’ve been really into working with felt for the DIYs in her room lately, and had a bunch leftover from her mobile in the same color scheme (that I will also share soon!) so it worked perfectly to use here.

I mostly free-handed the shape of the pennant and the letters, but you could definitely use a stencil if you want a more uniform look, or if you aren’t in love with your handwriting - just make sure to either use the stencil reversed on the back of the felt, or to make the outline larger than you intend the letters to be and trim down, so that there aren’t any lingering pen marks visible.

I made the yellow trim edge of the pennant about 1-1.5” thick. I wanted the letters to feel more whimsical so I didn’t specifically measure them - which meant I had to make a few again once I got some of the letters placed as I sorted out sizing, but I love the way it turned out. Let me know if you end up trying this craft yourself, and if you, too, are a fan of Meet The Robinsons!
